Hull commercial printer Jadan Press has expanded its inhouse services with the addition of a Horizon SPF/FC-200L landscape bookletmaker and a Horizon AFC-566 folder from Intelligent Finishing Systems.
“Landscape work was something we were keen to offer,” explains Pam Wainman, Managing Director of the £1.5m-turnover company that produces litho and digital print on two Heidleberg SpeedMasters and a Linoprint. “More and more customers are asking for it.
“We had a Duplo system but we hand-finished landscape jobs and needed something that could achieve the perfect finish. We looked at other systems but the Horizon fitted into the floor space. We also liked its easy operation and the quality results.”
The impact the Horizon SPF/FC-200L made was immediately felt explains Wainman: “I think we will achieve ROI in 18 months. It runs every day 24/7 and it is running perfectly. We already have the work going through the machine and any new work is just a bonus. We don’t just sit back and expect customers to come to us. We can now meet people and give them ideas. It is a two-way relationship.”
Jadan Press’s 4,500bph Horizon SPF/FC-200L. It incorporates all the highly automated features of the successful SPF/FC200A bookletmaker plus the ability to feed A4 landscape sheets up to 640mm in length. JDF-ready, the system offers instant set-ups via a large icon-based colour touchscreen for user-friendly operation. The screen can be used for on-the-run fine tune adjustments as well as the store and recall of up to 200 jobs.
The Horizon AFC-566 replaces a Stahl folder and offers 17 fold patterns which are set up via an icon-based touchscreen. All roller gap settings are then performed automatically by inserting a single sheet at the calliper.
Comments Wainman: “We are now more competitive in the market place,” We can handle more folds now. Before we would have turned the work away or subbed it out. We can be more cost effective.
“We can deliver a more responsive service to our existing customers,” she continues, “and we can be more flexible on the folds we offer. We are very much looking to differentiate ourselves from the competition. At the end of the day we are all putting ink on paper but this gives us a way of standing out. We expect it to pay for itself inside the next two years.”
As for choosing the Horizon system she states: “It was more robust than other machines. We also knew we would get a good service and warranty and that we could trust in the aftercare from IFS.”
