IFS was delighted to once again sponsor the Best British Book award at this year’s British Book Design and Production Awards.
It was especially pleased to see it go to Frome printer Berforts, Butler Tanner & Dennis for From the Land Comes the Cloth.
The judges felt the ‘inspired association of thoughtfully curated imagery, enhanced by effective spacing, the judicious use of text and high quality production proved instrumental in evoking the seamless bond between the natural beauty of the Hebridean landscape and the weavers’ craft it inspires’.
The slogan of the 2013 awards was ‘always judge a book by its cover and IFS Joint Managing Director Bryan Godwyn who presented the award comments: “The creativity and quality of the books entered this year was amazing to see. And what was clear was the enthusiasm and love for a well printed and bound book continues to excite people. The ability to touch and hold the printed work, as opposed to downloading it on e-readers continues to be in high demand.”
Held by The British Printing Industries Federation, the awards promote and acknowledge the excellence of the British book design and production industry. There were a record number of entries this year judged by a panel consisting of experts from the design, publishing and production industries.
The event was staged at Grange St Paul’s Hotel and the evening’s speaker was journalist, author, comedian and producer Will Gompertz,
The Book of the Year award was won by The Purple Book, Laurence King Publishing
