Waitrose print room in Bracknell has chosen to update its perfect binding capabilities with a Horizon BQ160 supplied by IFS.
The single clamp perfect binder replaces a Horizon BQ150 and Jon Masters, print service manager says: “We needed to upgrade the single clamp perfect binder. We had been looking for a while and we weighed up a number of solutions. We picked the Horizon because it was a robust solution that was easy to set up.
“Our operators are very happy with it. It is simple to use and quick to programme. It came with everything we wanted. It gives us more confidence to offer perfect binding as a service and build up this type of work.”
The Horizon BQ-160 single-clamp perfect binder is also capable of padding and tape binding. “It has made padding a much faster process,” says Mr Masters.
The BQ-160 can produce strong, high quality perfect bound books up to 1.6” thick at speeds up to 180 cycles per hour. It’s dynamic colour touchscreen allows the operator to easily adjust a range of settings including cover alignment with the spine, nipping pressure, clamping pressure and much more.
Other features include energy-save and auto-off functions, the ability to notch in one or both directions, and an optional carbon air filtration system to reduce adhesive odours.
He adds: “It was installed smoothly and has been running well.”
